What is Uninsured Motorist Insurance Coverage in California?

California requires drivers to maintain a 15/30/5 liability insurance (that is the minimum). The minimum coverage is if the insured is at fault for an auto accident, the insurer will pay up to:

$15,000.00 for bodily injuries for an individual
$5,000.00 property damage to other vehicles
$30,000.00 for total bodily injuries for all the people in the other vehicle

Uninsured or Underinsured coverage pays when another driver is at fault but either has no insurance at all or does not carry enough insurance coverage to cover the injured party’s medical bills and other losses.

We highly recommend everyone to carry Uninsured/Underinsured coverage on their auto insurance policy.
